Microsoft to train thousands in Virtualization

Speaking to Computer Weekly earlier today at the VM08 show at Earls Court, Zane Adam, senior director at Microsoft responsible for virtualisation, said, "For virtualisation to become mainstream we need to train IT people in the best practices for managing both virtual and physical systems." He expected the training programme, which is being made available as Microsoft certified training courses, over the next 60 days, will help IT directors manage complex datacentres. The training programme is part of Microsoft's Dynamic IT strategy, which stipulates the use of virtualisation in the datacentre to enable IT managers to adapt and scale the performance of datacentre applications, based on the demands of the business. If the business needs more computing power, such as to support a boost in traffic on the company's website, virtualisation can be used to provision extra servers automatically. ADVERTISEMENT Adam predicted IT departments would begin hiring datacentre staff w...

Cloud Computing and ITIL: Do it right this time!

And take a training before you do the standardization. Workshop program: DAY 1: Cloud Language : The Taxonomy of On-Demand Computing Clouds. Grids. PaaS. There are dozens of names to describe on-demand computing, and lots of confusion. This block brings some order to the chaos, offering a comparison of different on-demand computing models including hardware-as-a-service, custom platforms, and large-scale compute infrastructures.. Cloud SLAs How reliable is the cloud? Enterprises demand predictable service levels, reliable delivery, and committed availability. Cloning Citrix XenApp 4.5 on ESX 3.5

Though running Citrix XenApp 4.5 - formerly Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 - on XenServer 4.1, the new virtualization platform from Citrix, might be a likely topic for a Citrix Training Center blog, today the Citrix story I have to tell is actually about running XenApp 4.5 on VMware’s Virtual Infrastructure 3 (VI3), because that’s what the customer was doing. Apparently there’s a new industry coming up that is projected to bloom into a hundred and sixty billion dollar industry, soon, called “infrastructure on demand”. The task was to create a “button” to press that would provision Citrix server vm’s, apps installed, Citrix software installed, configuration complete and documented, immediately, and while many of my peers approach this from a scripting point of view, with Windows sysprep utility and Enteo software complicating the process, I decided to see if I could get a citrix-vm clone going, having been hanging around training centers for the past 15 years and dealing with ghost issu...
