IBM: Nationwide Virtualization with z9 Series

Virtualization has different faces. There is hardware emulation, OS partitioning and there is the mother-of-all Mainframes that IBM has (So does HP and others ofcourse) Mainframes will push harder too. If you are a big firm and have over 700 servers then IBM's z9 series might just come in handy. These refrigerator-like boxes can gobble up your servers in no time. Well that is what Nationwide did . Over the course of three to four years, Nationwide will save about $30 million in hardware, software, and electricity operating expenses in its data center, thanks to Linux virtual machines, Miggo says. He's started virtualizing 15 months ago and is running a version of Novell's Suse Linux on the mainframes in VMware and IBM Virtualization Engine software.
