I used the VMware Tools v1.0.3-44356 provided by VMware Server v1.03. This howto is meant as a practical guide; it does not cover the theoretical backgrounds. They are treated in a lot of other documents in the web. This document comes without warranty of any kind! I want to say that this is not the only way of setting up such a system. Richard has posted something about this tool which he recieved from a user: Overall, the application is very simple. It was designed and built in VB.NET 2005, and uses the VI3 SDK. There is limited error-handling in a few places, but in most cases it will probably just crash. It should be quite safe to use though – all it knows how to do is submit a VM_Reconfigure task with a modified virtual network device – it won’t delete VM’s or anything dangerous. You need to read this if you are acquiring HP and are looking to benefit from the VMotion tool. The ProLiant servers listed below are organized into VMotion compatible groups [VMotion to and from any Server/Processor combination within a group]. This grouping list will continue to be updated as new processor and server combinations are released by HP. I got to test the FastSCP version 2.0 against my ESX Servers and I was truly impressed with this tool! The new features are totally cool! This blogger needed to learn about security and hacking. So he turned to VMware's VMware Player. Well there are lots of things you can do with the free VMware Server as well. Loads of them. I have personally lab enviroment where I cook (including the heavily downloaded Avastu Appliances) loads of appliances. Convert them for different formats (like Vmware Workstation etc) with VMware Converter and send them over to various clients (users, external developers etc). Anyways this blogger too describes how he turned to VMware for his lab testing... One of the tools I use is called VMware Player, a FREE application that allows you to run predefined virtual guests, which can also be downloaded for FREE. All the FREE virtual machines offered are obviously open source. VMware Player can be played on Windows 2000 Pro and Server, Windows XP Home and Pro, and also Windows Server 2003. VMware Converter's launch is making a lot of small and enterprise businesses to try the VMware migration into their test and development environments. This will help the decision makers quickly decide what it means to virtualize their ailing environments. The Starter version is designed to entice smaller businesses who are undertaking their first virtualization project, said Charles King, president of Pund-IT Inc., a technology research firm. The Enterprise version is for larger businesses, which likely have their own IT staff familiar with virtualization. But either type of customer can benefit from simplified management. We have been crazy about this tool. It was amazing to see all kinds of crazy old legacy and cumbersome applications and services go happy on the new hardware.
