Cloud Computing APAC: SalesForce goes to India

Salesforce.com sees India as one of the potential market for cloud computing. "Cloud computing is the next stage of SaaS. As we have had an experience of more than 10 years in this foray, cloud computing was the obvious next step. When we were holding our press conference about the same in San Francisco, a lot of Indian companies were very excited and willing to employ this technology", said Doug Farber Vice President Operations, Asia Pacific Salesforce.com. Bandwidth is a problem in India and everyone is aware of that. So, how will a technology like such which is dependent on bandwidth survive in India? Farber said "Yes bandwidth is a problem in India. But we have found out ways to work around it. For example, one of the things that we have done is something called offline PDA. A person is connected through his iphone or laptop in which the data is stored and synchronized as and when the device gets the connection back and on. So, there are mechanisms to work around su...

Harrah Entertainment bets on Salesforce Cloud

Harrah's deployment of crucial business applications on Salesforce's platform is surely one of the biggest bets to date by a major enterprise on so-called cloud computing, an information technology architecture in which third party vendors deliver software to customers over the Internet. Harrah's will rely on Force.com for applications, such as room reservations, that are directly linked to revenue generation. The applications will be used by agents based at casinos, at Harrah's 50 branch offices and by about 250 independent reps who work on behalf of the company. Among other things, the new architecture will allow reps to make room requests over the Web and receive confirmations back within hours. Additionally, airline schedules will be integrated directly into Harrah's travel management system, which will make it easier for the casino operator to schedule travel for VIP guests. Source

Cloud Computing: DreamForce and Foo Fighters?

Marc's team really stole my dream. I had once planned to have proposed Foo Fighters to VMware folks. I didn't propose it but wanted to. Marc Benioff got the better of all of us. Gosh, just for that I'd have wanted to be there at DreamForce. Just look! Foo Fighters to Perform at Dreamforce Get ready to celebrate in style at Monday night's Global Gala, featuring the Grammy award-winning Foo Fighters . It's been a banner year for Foo Fighters. The band spent the last decade establishing themselves as one of the biggest bands in the world by crafting their unique brand of rock that manages to transcend fads while leaving room for evolution and experimentation. Today, Foo Fighters is as diverse musically as it’s ever been, paving the way for the band's current success. Since the October 2007 release of their sixth studio album , Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace , the Foos have won two Grammys (including their third 'Best Rock Album' awar...

Cloud Computing: SalesForce's PaaS event in Amsterdam

I was there today in the evening and got a call from our good friend, Anshu Sharma , a SalesForce Sr. Director. Anshu quickly fixed a couple of meetings with the SF folks. My opinion on the show: Event was very well arranged. I'd give a 8.7/10 on that one! I picked up two books, not just out of nostalgic reasons (loads of SQL code, its called SOQL in the books) Went into a developer workshop. The presenter did all the stuff in the cloud. Spoke to CODA CEO (Jeremy) and Product Director (Debbie). (I really liked their stuff and they were going live today with their software). Spoke to some other vendors such as BlueWolf , Magic Software , 4C Consulting (Two soft-spoken Belgian guys but had a good customer portfolio!) Overall a good event, its a pity that I came in a bit late. I was rushing from Data Centers and other conferences! It was worth a visit! Do check out other roadshows! Salesforce takes Haagan Dazs to the Clouds

Salesforce.com is trying to expand on its already popular web-based CRM SaaS by launching Force.com- an environment made for developers to create applications that can work in unison with its CRM software. As a forerunner for the service, the company has announced Haagen-Dazs as its first high-profile client. Salesforce describes “Force.com” as a “platform-as-a-service,” in which developers can create applications that have nothing to do with CRM- that can all work together as a hosted platform for business users, according to InformationWeek. The customized features of the soon-to-be force.com platform were originally created for Haagen-Dazs in 2005, two years before Salesforce formally announced Force.com in the first place. Haagen-Dazs has been a long-time customer of Salesforce, and wanted to expand on the CRM features it was already using. Since the corporate side of Haagen-Dazs is made up primarily of franchisees, the company needed a customizable CRM that let it manage real e...
