Garter Data Center: Brocade presents Data Center Fabric Architecture

Another *.ppt or is it really worthwhile something. I on one side am excited with all these developments, but I just hope that consumers are seeing this as the beginning on an era and decide wisely! The new Brocade DCF architecture provides several tangible and significant advantages compared to alternative approaches, including: -- The Brocade DCF is a policy-based, application-driven architecture. It adapts and responds to the changing needs for managing applications and data. It also helps ensure that important data center services -- such as data security, encryption, backup, and replication -- are automatically available based on defined policies, and that they do not encumber the infrastructure when not in use. -- The Brocade DCF simplifies and optimizes important new technologies such as server virtualization. The vast majority of virtual servers connect to networked storage, and Brocade is using its deep storage networkin...

Gartner says, Adapt to the new Delivery Models

And I called it myself, GDM (Global Delivery Model). Search my blog from it ;) Anyways... The report, Alternative Delivery Models: A Sea of New Opportunities and Threats, says that IT leaders must explore these models or risk having business units implement the solutions without their knowledge and support. Alternative delivery models require IT functions to acquire, package and deliver IT in new ways, the report said. “These alternative delivery models start from externals. Software-as-a-service is not something you buy and install in-house, it’s something you get from outside as available functionality, and you adapt to it,” said Claudio Da Rold, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. So this article really doesn't say much, but I can tell you a few things, where you should pay attention to and start adapting to: "Pay-as-you-go" models : That is the foundation of the SaaS, VaaS or even DaaS (data center as a service), where you copy all your infrastructur...

Brocade also into "Data Center Fabric"

But Tom Buiocci, Brocade's vice president of marketing, said his company's framework differs in that its is application- and data-based, not entirely network-based. "All the intelligence will not go into the network. Our competitor would call [theirs] a network architecture," Buiocci said. "Our approach will leverage the intelligence our partners have put into servers, server virtualization, storage and of course the SAN. "This is not our version of their thing. Is the general category the same? Yes. Is the approach the same? No. The operating system is going to tell us how to behave." Link

Greg Ness on changing landscape of security: NetSec and VirtSec

I love reading Greg's posts. He is way ahead of the vision that needs to not only be evangelized but also seriously considered. So unlike those betting on telegraphs and typewriters and other remembrances of things past, today’s security experts have every reason in the world to see the emergence of virtsec as a distant cloud on the horizon. Unfortunately, we need their focus and attention. We need them to be involved in the virtualization of production environments. Their intimate working knowledge of netsec is needed now more than ever. "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers" (Watson- 1943) will soon be eclipsed by “virtualization won’t change anything” at the top of the list of bad predictions preserved for time immemorial. I still hear it from various technology experts, especially those with deep-rooted knowledge in network security, and that troubles me. Many of these network security pundits are about to be swept up in a wave of fluff virtsec (...
