3PAR helps Exact systems for its Utility SaaS storage

Traditional Storage: No Match for Growing Business Demands Thousands of organizations worldwide, including The Home Depot, Papa John's, Cold Stone Creamery and Careerbuilder.com, rely on the ExactTarget platform for their integrated email marketing needs. With nearly a billion outgoing emails each month, ExactTarget required a high performance, cost-effective storage environment that could keep pace, and deliver tiered storage to control the company's increasing quantity of data. 3PAR interviewed; Storage Virtualization discussed!

Finally the Q&As are here. I spoke to Craig Nunes and we had a good talk about the role of storage in the fast changing virtual infrastructure. Here are the Q&As: 1. Please tell us a bit about 3PAR? 3PAR is the global leader in “utility storage.” Utility storage is a category of highly virtualized tiered-storage arrays built for utility computing deployments in the heart of the data center. 3PAR Utility Storage allows users to securely and reliably serve more with less. Organizations creating virtualized IT infrastructures for workload consolidation use 3PAR to reduce the cost of allocated storage capacity, storage administration, and the SAN infrastructure. As a pioneer of thin provisioning, 3PAR has disrupted the fundamental economics associated with primary storage and become a leader in minimizing power consumption and promoting environmental responsibility. Distinct advantages in simplicity, efficiency, and massive scalability make 3PAR utilit...

Storage Virtualization rethinks Virtualization

Hitachi added another chapter to its virtualization story by extending the thin provisioning feature of its high-end Universal Storage Platform V to externally attached storage systems from other vendors. HDS also added support for SATA drives and boosted USP V performance to more than 4 million IOPS. "At some point, we almost stop counting," said HDS chief scientist Claus Mikkelsen. HDS, which has shipped more than 7,300 virtual storage controllers to date, said Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning software lets customers allocate virtual disk storage based on their anticipated future requirements without dedicating physical disk storage up front. If the need for additional physical disk arises, capacity can be purchased at a later time without disruption. Only the capacity that is required to hold the actual data is provisioned and replicated, requiring fewer physical disks and resulting in a lower carbon footprint. Link here.
