Intel Corp., the world's largest chip maker, on Tuesday reported a 12.6 percent stake in Class A shares of virtualization software maker VMware Inc., according to a regulatory filing.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company reported owning 9.5 million shares of VMware's Class A common stock. This represents a 12.6 percent stake, based on the 75.1 million shares of Class A common stock issued and outstanding as of the completion of VMware's IPO on Aug. 14.
Intel jumped into this before the IPO. When VMware was divided into to classes of stock, 32,500,000 Class A and 300,000,000 Class B for a total of 332,500,000 shares! Since there is nearly ten times the amount of Class B shares, grossly overlooked in recent news articles is the shear weight of the Class B shares making it a mere 1.23% holdings.
ReplyDeleteI have invested in VMware for the long haul, so believe me, I want the positive spin to influence another's decision to buy. Let's just not forget the big picture here.
