Web API's: Having fun with Google API

Today we'll talk about using Web API's such as one from Google (there are also others such as Amazon, eBay, PayPal, FedEx and more but we'll talk about them later).

I'll post the stuff at the end of the day :-)

PS: Something came up, so we might have to wait.

  1. Hi Tarry,

Have you read about the feature AJAX used by google's gmail which dynamically update parts of a website without reloading the whole page.

    Cheers

  2. Absolutely, and it rocks! Infact AJAX is clearing up a lot of crap which all the cumbersome frameworks couldn't provide(in terms of speed). Just heard on slashdot (yesterday) that IBM is also giving some of the code to firefox. That will totally rock the IE out of it's chair! :-)

I will also explore AJAX very soon on the blog.

BTW: I wanted to respond to a post on your modblog but your "verification" image does not load. I suggest that you ditch modblog, it's neat interface but it needs some robust guys behind it :-) and blogspot has certainly lots of good guys.

  4. Ach je moet ff wachten. Gisteren kwamen we achter dat onze vriend(die huid kanker had) niet gaat het redden.
Behoorlijk heftig voor ons allemaal, vooral voor onze vriendin en de kinderen.

  5. Hi Tarry,

I know there are some problems with modblog but I think I'll stick around for some more time. Best part I liked about modblog is that the administrator keeps the members updated about what all problems are going on and when they will get fixed.

And I feel shifting around too much will make me loose my credibility ;)

PS: As for the verification code its working as I received a coment today . I'm not sure why you got this problem.

    Cheers
    Amar

Security: VMware Workstation 6 vulnerability

vulnerable software: VMware Workstation 6.0 for Windows, possible some other VMware products as well type of vulnerability: DoS, potential privilege escalation I found a vulnerability in VMware Workstation 6.0 which allows an unprivileged user in the host OS to crash the system and potentially run arbitrary code with kernel privileges. The issue is in the vmstor-60 driver, which is supposed to mount VMware images within the host OS. When sending the IOCTL code FsSetVoleInformation with subcode FsSetFileInformation with a large buffer and underreporting its size to at max 1024 bytes, it will underrun and potentially execute arbitrary code. Splunk that!

Saw this advert on Slashdot and went on to look for it and found the tour pretty neat to look at. Check out the demo too! So why would I need it? WHY NOT? I'd say. As an organization grows , new services, new data comes by, new logs start accumulating on the servers and it becomes increasingly difficult to look at all those logs, leave alone that you'd have time to read them and who cares about analysis as the time to look for those log files already makes your day, isn't it? Well a solution like this is a cool option to have your sysadmins/operators look at ONE PLACE and thus you don't have your administrators lurking around in your physical servers and *accidentally* messing up things there. Go ahead and give it a shot by downloading it and testing it. I'll give it a shot myself! Ok so I went ahead and installed it. Do this... [root@tarrydev Software]# ./splunk-Server-1.0.1-linux-installer.bin to install and this (if you screw up) [root@tarrydev Software]# /op...
