Veeam Configurator has Host Profiles ready!

Setting up and properly configuring your ESX and ESXi hosts isn’t difficult. But over time, things can change. How do you know which hosts are still configured as intended, and which have "drifted"? Veeam Configurator helps to ensure that your ESX server configuration complies with corporate policies and standards across your entire VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3 (VI3), boosting administrator productivity in the areas of host configuration and configuration management. Veeam Configurator 2.0 automatically discovers ESX and ESXi configurations across the enterprise and creates Veeam host profile templates. These templates can then be applied to groups of VMware hosts, and periodic scans can uncover inconsistencies and allow administrators to enforce defined templates to ensure policy compliance. The templates can also be used to quickly provision a new or re-build an existing ESX host. With Veeam Configurator, administrators can quickly and easily ...

Veeam announces management suite for VMware

This just in... CLEVELAND , Ohio , Feb. 18, 2008 – Veeam Software, innovative provider of systems management tools for VMware ESX Server environments, today announced the Veeam Management Suite for VMware, a comprehensive suite designed to address many of the common challenges faced by ESX administrators. The Veeam Management Suite for VMware works with and extends VMware VirtualCenter to help simplify the management of virtual environments – thereby reducing costs, increasing productivity and mitigating risk. “Virtualization technology offers an opportunity to dramatically improve the flexibility and manageability of enterprise systems,” said Ratmir Timashev, Veeam Software president and CEO. “On the other hand, fast virtualization adoption by medium and large enterprises creates new systems management challenges. These new virtualized environments call for different approaches, as well as new management tools. Traditional physical systems management tools simply aren’t...

Veeam CEO interviewed; Future of Virtualization tools discussed

I spoke to our good friend and entrepreneur Ratmir, the founder of Aelita (which he sold to Quest for over $100M) some time back. When Ratmir started with this new idea on this newer turf, he was entering a "stage battlefield"where he has learned to master the game during the Microsoft-Novell battle and eventual migration abilities. This seems to be repeating itself with a possible Microsoft Citrix acquisition. I am personally advising that this should better happen at a later stage, like 2009 Q2, but any other developments and an aggressive push from a third party can make this happen this year as well. Anyways, you know what I am getting at. Microsoft has a different challenge today and on a different turf (horizontal, flatter, blogomaniacal age) and we are very curious how the "new middle" will be situated established in this game. Anyways, here is the (summarized) chat I had with Ratmir : 1. Hi Ratmir, what has changed at Veeam Software since we last s...

Veeam monitor for ESX is available!

CLEVELAND, Ohio, Oct. 16, 2007 — Veeam Software has added a third commercial product to its management suite for VMware Infrastructure 3 (Vi3) environments. Veeam Monitor, introduced at VMworld last month, is now generally available. With agentless monitoring and alerting designed specifically for ESX enterprise environments, support for troubleshooting, trending and capacity planning, Veeam Monitor helps IT professionals proactively manage ESX Server system performance. "Monitoring is an important capability to round out our VMware management suite," said Ratmir Timashev, Veeam president and CEO. "While VMware VirtualCenter offers some similar functionality, our interface enhances and extends VirtualCenter by combining several types of data into a single, intuitive GUI. This makes system performance data more accessible and saves time for administrators. "Veeam Monitor also offers trend reporting and performance-related alerts," Timashev continued. "We...

VMworld: Veeam to demo two commercial products around Virtual Management!

The company next week at VMworld plans to announce two commercial products to round out its portfolio. Veeam Monitor is software designed to manage the performance of virtual machines and provide tools for capacity planning, trending and alerting. Veeam Backup combines backup and replication features in one product, and is designed for virtual environments, Timashev says. Currently the company offers FastSCP 2.0 for VMware, which Timashev describes as a freeware file management product that helps customers move virtual machines and copy instances from one server to another. FastSCP was originally released in October 2006 and, says Timashev, "became the de facto standard for ESX file management." Veeam Reporter, released in January 2006, provides detailed reports on VMware virtual infrastructure and ESX Server. Veeam Configurator, announced in July, offers customers a Windows GUI with which to configure VMware servers. Link

Veeam configurator on its way!

Veeam Configurator integrates with and extends the capabilities of VMware VirtualCenter, maintaining and building on VirtualCenter’s centralized view and associated benefits, such as VirtualCenter partitioning to simultaneously configure all ESX Servers in a cluster. Veeam Configurator offers GUI-based centralized control over ESX settings and subsystems not accessible from the VirtualCenter interface, freeing administrators from reliance on the service console. "The VMware ESX Server service console offers tremendous power for virtual server configuration," said Ratmir Timashev, president and CEO of Veeam Software. "Unfortunately, the console only allows you to configure one server at a time. In addition, for administrators who come from a Windows background, the open-source command line syntax takes time to research, learn, try and test. With this new product, we’ve done the learning and testing, so our customers can quickly configure multiple servers without having to...

Sneak Peek : FastSCP 2.0 from Veeam for ESX Server

I got to test the FastSCP version 2.0 against my ESX Servers and I was truly impressed with this tool! The new features are totally cool! The tool will be released on 26th Feb 2007, coming Monday thus. Check out the cool new features: ESX to ESX direct copy . FastSCP 2.0 allows a user to copy files directly between ESX servers or within one ESX server. Copying is fast and secure and doesn’t require any configuration or setup. Multiple ESX Management . VMware Server and Veeam software

I did interview the CEO last and was wondering how the guys were doing? I will be needing the Veeam software for training purposes should my client want to go for VMware Server instead of ESX. Although it'd be better if they make a wise decision and go for the ESX Server. In any case we will be using the simplicity of Veeam with the datacenter capabilities of openQRM . Maybe I'll just ping the CEO and check up on him.

Veeam CEO interviewed!

I was wondering about this little startup firm called Veeam . I invited the CEO for a little chat and was happy when he obliged. I am always attracted to startups for variety of reasons. Some of them being: They are sharp and lightweight They address the direct needs of the consumers They dig into the market and discover gaps and holes (based on deep business needs of the constantly evolving consumer) which bigger firms fail to notice. I have spoken about this phenomenon (called "bounded awareness") on my vlog Anyways lets take a look at these gentlemen's impressive biographies. Ratmir Timashev Ratmir Timashev presents a rare combination of business savvy and technical knowledge which helps him in his position as the president of Veeam Software, allowing him to create a vision for the company that is forward-looking, realistic, and meets the customer needs. Timashev has more than a ten-year business experience. In 1993, he founded Midwestern Commerce, the predecessor of ...

Sneak peek at Veeam's FastSCP for ESX Server!

I was happy to welcome the Virtual Infrastructure 3. But I had to say good bye to my regular FTP tools, which for security reasons had to be replaced by..well WinSCP for instance. But did you notice that the upload and download speed reduced dramatically? Then I got this opportunity from Veeam's CEO (who I will be interviewing later)to let me take a sneak peek at the Fast SCP tool. And this tool is pretty fast. Much faster than the WinSCP! I was doing an average of 300KB/s against a non SCP which would have been above 1.2MB/s. FastSCP worked a lot faster for me! I will publish the results later. This tool will be made GA on the 10th of October 2006, so stay tuned! Here are some print screens: And we are happy to have putty built in as well So hold on to your horses until monday...

Monitor your VMware with veeam tools

Just got an email from Ratmir (CEO) of veeam . Check out the tools for VMware Server, Workstation (free for personal use). I was looking for a tool to monitor my workstation and this is cool indeed. A screenshot of the monitor. Do check out the downloads and try them . There is also a scanner. I think for a SMB shop a typical VMware Server farm will indeed need a solid monitoring and scanning. And all that can be for a reasonable cost. Download and test it. I am doing it right now. And here a couple of screenshots of my Solaris 10 on VMware Server: You can always pick up advanced options on networking, disk, cpu etc by selection more columns:
